Course Description
Leadership Foundations: For Emerging Leaders and New Managers Leadership Foundations is a 7.5-hour, self-paced course in eight modules, built for two learners: emerging leaders preparing for a leadership role, and managers who have recently been given one. Both are learning the same thing from opposite sides of one line — how to get good work done through people who have a choice about how much of themselves they give you. Every module teaches one capability, then applies it twice: once for the learner who leads without formal authority, once for the learner who has just been handed it. You choose your track at the start, and your worksheets follow it. If you are promoted partway through, switch tracks and keep going. Learning Objectives 1. Distinguish leadership, management, and authority — and name which you hold. 2. Assess your own leadership behavior from evidence rather than a personality profile. 3. Build credibility across competence, reliability, and care, including with former peers. 4. Make a case, state an ask, hold a silence, and recover from being dismissed. 5. Build a RACI chart and delegate with autonomy over method. 6. Choose among unilateral, consultative, consent, and consensus decisions, and announce the outcome well. 7. Lead a meeting where participation comes from your behavior, not requests. 8. Manage up and sideways, secure a mentor and a sponsor, and leave with a 90-day plan built from work you have already done. Who this course is for Team leads, project leads, high-potential contributors identified for advancement, supervisors, and first-year managers. No prerequisites. This is the entry point of the Leadership Academy; Performance Management, Leadership Skills, Conflict Management, and the Trauma-Informed Leadership courses each go deep on one capability Leadership Foundations establishes. Certificate: pass all eight quizzes at 80% or higher and submit all sixteen reflections.
